Amber Fire Ceilidh Band Devon
The musicians in Amber Fire Ceilidh Band have been plying their trade all over Devon and the Westcountry for well over twenty years and played at hundreds of parties, weddings, ceilidhs, barn dances, celebrations and festivals of all kinds. We know each event is special to you, and that makes it special for us too. We play traditional English, Irish and Scottish folk music with a touch of East Europe to spice things up occasionally.
There's no celebration that's been able to resist our joyful, infectious music . . .
Small band, big sound
How do we do it? We have a top class PA system as you may expect of an established dance band with many years experience, but there's no substitute for skill when it comes to playing for dance. A ceilidh needs musicians who can play with precision and also react to the dancers to create a great atmosphere and a truly memorable event. Note that in the clip below there are just two playing! accordion + guitar
Please take a look and listen to our other live recordings and videos and read the testimonials that will assure you of a great ceilidh band for your wedding, party, or other event. Better still come along to one of our public barn dances in Devon.
Why have a ceilidh?
Maybe I'm a little biased, but in my opinion a traditional barn dance, country dance, folk dance, ceili, ceilidh - call it what you will is a great way to bring people together, all generations, all nationalities, all abilities.
Don't worry about having a dancing partner either, our caller will organise "sets" of people who dance together so everybody can join in the fun.

Why have a caller?
The caller is a most important ingredient in a successful ceilidh. We only work with the best in Devon and one of the very best in the South West is Chris Jewell. Being steeped in folk music and dance ever since he can remember, Chris has the full range of dances for any occasion and is a great musician on melodeon or fiddle to add an extra dimension to our music .
A good caller like Chris will choose appropriate dances, he will guide you through the steps and moves efficiently yet concisely (the 'walk-through' ) then when the band strikes up he will be alert to the dancers needs, prompting only as often as needed the next figure with impeccable timing and humour. Simple!
Hi Leslie,
Dan and I would like to say a big thank you to you and the rest of your band for playing at our wedding on 19th May. We had such a great time and all of our guests commented on how fantastic you guys were. We were a bit apprehensive about having a Ceilidh because you never know if people will get up and dance but even those people who had sworn never to dance again were up on the dance floor!! The music was fantastic and we were really grateful for your patience during the many moments of confusion! We will definitely be recommending you to friends and family and hope we have the opportunity to hire you again in the future.
Many thanks again,
Natalie and Daniel
How to book Amber Fire Ceilidh Band
The hardest part is how to pronounce "ceilidh"... it rhymes with 'daily'! It's no different from a barn dance, or Scottish country dance anyway. Give us a call or send an email about availability for your date, not forgetting the venue and approximate times. We would normally consider only venues in the South West (UK!) We can get booked up especially for weddings on Saturdays in the summer, so the earlier you enquire the better. If we are unavailable, we do have personal knowledge of all the barn dance bands in Devon and many in Somerset, Dorset and Cornwall so may be able to help you find another band.
